Aakanksha Shivankar: Beyond the Comfort Zone, From Bhandara to Dubai

Success stories are often mistaken for moments of achievement, but in reality, they are built through years of discipline, setbacks, and quiet persistence. The journey of Aakanksha Shivankar is one such story—one that begins in a small town and unfolds across cities and countries, driven by courage and consistency.

Born and raised in Bhandara, Maharashtra, Aakanksha grew up in a middle-class family where values were strong, but resources were limited. Her father, a government employee, carried the responsibility of the household, while her mother ensured discipline and structure shaped their upbringing. Life was simple, but it came with its own set of challenges.

Academically, Aakanksha was not a topper. In fact, she struggled with studies, especially in subjects like mathematics. Despite attending tuition classes and putting in effort, academic excellence did not come naturally to her. However, what she lacked in marks, she compensated for with resilience. She developed interests in extracurricular activities such as dancing and singing, which gave her confidence and a sense of identity beyond academics.

After completing her schooling, one of the biggest decisions of her life came—choosing a stream for higher studies. Despite doubts from others and her own academic struggles, she chose Science. This decision was not easy, but it marked the beginning of stepping beyond comfort. Later, she pursued a Bachelor of Science degree, followed by an MBA in Human Resources. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, her post-graduation was completed through online learning, limiting her exposure to real college life but strengthening her adaptability.

Like many graduates from small towns, entering the professional world was not easy. Aakanksha faced multiple rejections while searching for a job. Eventually, she received an opportunity through a consultancy to attend an interview in Pune. It was her first time stepping into a big city, accompanied by her parents for support. After a long and uncertain wait, she was selected.

Her professional journey began with a salary of ₹12,000. While many questioned her decision to move so far for such a modest income, her mindset was clear—independence mattered more than the amount. Moving away from her family for the first time was emotionally challenging, but it was a necessary step toward growth.

The corporate environment was demanding and disciplined. In the initial days, she faced criticism, pressure, and self-doubt. Starting at the reception desk, she was quickly exposed to responsibilities that tested her confidence. Over time, she transitioned into HR roles, handling recruitment, coordination, and operations. Although success did not come immediately, her willingness to learn and adapt helped her grow.

One of the major turning points in her career came when she was given the responsibility to coordinate a large-scale Delhi trip for employees and their families. Managing multiple people, logistics, and expectations was overwhelming. She made mistakes, faced criticism, and worked sleepless nights—but she did not quit. That experience became a foundation for her leadership skills.

Her journey continued to evolve as she participated in company events, presentations, and international projects. She gradually overcame her stage fear and began taking on leadership roles. Her performance opened doors to global exposure, including opportunities to travel to countries like Maldives, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Dubai.

Among all these milestones, the biggest turning point came when she was selected for an opportunity in Dubai. Out of many employees, only a few were chosen, and she was one of them. With just three days to prepare, she made one of the boldest decisions of her life—to leave everything familiar and move to a new country.

Life in Dubai was completely different. It exposed her to a new level of professionalism, technology, and global work culture. She took on new responsibilities, including leading teams and managing international coordination tasks. From handling global gifting operations to working with clients across different countries, she gained experiences that transformed her perspective.

One of the most emotional milestones in her journey was bringing her parents to Dubai. For a family that had never imagined international travel, this moment symbolized the result of years of sacrifice and hard work. It was not just a personal achievement but a shared victory.

Over time, Aakanksha became part of senior management responsibilities, earning recognition and awards for her contributions. Her identity evolved—from a small-town girl struggling academically to a confident professional working on an international platform.

Her journey reflects a powerful truth: success is not defined by where you start, but by how consistently you move forward. It is about stepping beyond comfort, embracing challenges, and growing through every experience.

Today, Aakanksha Shivankar stands as an inspiration for many young individuals, especially those from small towns and middle-class backgrounds. Her story proves that with discipline, courage, and the right mindset, it is possible to create a life beyond limitations.

Her journey from Bhandara to Dubai is not just about distance—it is about transformation.
