Few art forms are more important and less understood than casting. Our favorite TV shows often live and die by the chemistry between their casts, and finding the right actor for a role can open up the character in ways that even the people who created them wouldn’t have imagined. With the Emmy race around the corner, it’s the perfect time to revisit and celebrate the magic behind some of our favorite shows of the season — magic that would never have been possible without casting directors.
Emmy voters and guild members are invited to join IndieWire and Disney to celebrate the art of casting at our Pass the Remote event on Monday, June 8. Held at Vidiots Foundation in Eagle Rock, the event will feature five casting directors in conversation with IndieWire’s Jim Hemphill to discuss their processes. Panelists include “Abbott Elementary” casting director Wendy O’Brien, “Love Story” casting director Nicole Daniels, “Only Murders in the Building” and “Paradise” casting director Tiffany Little Canfield, “The Testaments” casting director Sharon Bialy, and “Wonder Man” casting director Carmen Cuba.
Doors open for the event at 6pm, with the conversation beginning at 7pm and a beer and wine reception to follow. TV Academy and guild members can request an invite here. Please note that space is limited and admission is not guaranteed.
